My first review!
I read the Hughes trilogy many years ago and loved them. When I was casually browsing IMDb and found SILO, I was immediately intrigued. I see a bit of mixed opinions and I can relate to some of them, here’s my take on the first season. First of all, I love dystopian literature! The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological perspective on human nature in hypothetical scenarios.
It’s not an adaptation in the sense that it follows the plot
My interest in the trilogy was reinforced because Hughes managed to develop Orwellian ideas in hypothetical scenarios that are relevant to today’s world. Imagining the development of the human psyche in dystopian scenarios is a difficult task. I think Hughes did a fantastic job, SILO captures most of these aspects in a refreshing way. It is based on books, but of course it has to adapt to the audience in a fast changing world. However, the series manages to capture the atmosphere of a society living in a silo.
Naturally, it should please the receiving audience
The acting is phenomenal with the most central characters. Unlike the superficial narrative of other shows, „SILO“ has a wonderful combination of character development and a focus on atmosphere. The only problem I have with this show is the lack of mood development. They spend a lot of screen time chasing and capturing Juliette. They lack the silo atmosphere development as a society.
