Naoko Yamada’s fifth feature film
Narrative
A girl who can see the colors in people’s hearts joins a band with two other people. The Colors Within tells the story of Totsuko Higurashi (Sayu Suzukawa), a young girl who sees the colors in anyone’s heart, as long as she meets them. She starts a band with her friends, namely Kimi Sakunaga (Akari Takaishi) and Rui Kagehira (Taisei Kido).
The Colors Within is a great film
Director Naoko Yamada has given us a charming film, quite funny, and one that will make you cry during its last scene. However, it is not as perfect as Look Back (2024) or The Boy and the Heron (2023), two other anime films I recently watched. The animation is breathtakingly beautiful and is the highlight of the film.
The songs are moving
The vocal performances are perfect. Sayu Suzukawa is spectacular as Totsuko Higurashi. Akari Takaishi is amazing as Kimi Sakunaga.
The supporting cast is brilliant
Taisei Kido is impressive as Rui Kagehira. The Colors Within is a must-watch for anime fans. Watch it on the big screen for a more memorable experience.
